Ashley Falls Woods
The Community Recreational & Educational Trail Network includes walking trails in the center of Sheffield at the northeastern end of Schenob Brook and within walking distance of the Village of Ashley Falls. The trail properties are rich in rare plant and animal species and provide lovely footpaths for anyone in the community looking for a walk in the woods.
The Sheffield Land Trust has purchased 24 acres on the west side of Rte. 7A in Ashley Falls from the estate of Emerick Schneck so that the property can be available for the whole community to enjoy. The mostly wooded property, within walking distance of the center of Ashley Falls, included a cobble, a former quarry and a partially completer trail network that the Land Trust will finish. The property also contains an area of rare species habitat thanks to a how of special plants. The Land Trust plans to extend the trail to reach Rte. 7A and reclaim a meadow for picnics, playing and dogs.
Much of that work will be done by volunteers, but some expenses will be incurred. A committee of Ashley Falls residents will be helping with improvements and naming the new park. SLT is raising funds from the community and other sources to pay for the purchase of and improvements to the Schneck property. Please contribut today!
